When Adam was placed in the garden, He was lacking one thing. For what he was lacking was the womb of the woman which was Eve. “So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man." The ribs cover the chest and support the lungs to breathe. And a wife covers her family, and gives her household support to breathe.
When Adam was placed in the garden, although its bounty was plentiful, he still was lacking one thing. For what he was lacking was the womb of the woman which was Eve. “So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:21-25) And rib is derived from the Germanic word rippe which means “covering.” And when Adam and Eve discovered the fruit, they discovered that they had no covering. “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.” (Genesis 3:7) And in the nakedness of their flesh, God made them coverings of skin. “Now the man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all the living. The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:20-21)
