From the Mouth of God
The mouth is the opening through which food is swallowed and words are produced. And the mouth consumes bread that all men may live. And the God fed them the Word, that His people could live. The mouth is an orifice through which food is swallowed and words are produced. And the mouth is also called the oral cavity, and is derived from the Latin word
oris
which means "
open
". And the earth opened its mouth to receive man’s blood from the beginning. For from the first bloodshed of man, the ground would open its mouth."Then the L
ORD
said to Cain, 'Where is Abel your brother?' And he said, 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?' He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.
Now you are cursed from the ground, which has
opened
its mouth
to receive your brother's blood from your hand." (Genesis 4:9-11) And those who spoke against God, would be swallowed by the earth down to Sheol. For as Moses "finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open; and the earth
opened
its
mouth
and
swallowed
them up, and their households, and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions.
So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. All Israel who were around them fled at their outcry, for they said, 'The earth may
swallow
us up!' Fire also came forth from the LORD
and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense." (Numbers 16:31-35) And His enemies were swallowed by the earth down to Sheol. "Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock, and they hear my words, for they are pleasant. As when one plows and breaks
open
the earth, our bones have been scattered at the
mouth
of Sheol." (Psalms 141:6-7) Yet man has continued to sin against God, thus the mouth of the earth has opened without measure."Therefore Sheol has enlarged its throat and opened its
mouth
And the mouth of man consumes the bread in order to live. And the children of God consume the Word, in order to live. For "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with without measure; and Jerusalem's splendor, her multitude, her din of revelry and the jubilant within her, descend into it.
So the common man will be humbled and the man of importance abased, the eyes of the proud also will be abased." (Isaiah 5:14-15)
